Usually go by charts and keep an eye on the fathometer and set the alarm. Gulf of Mexico is mostly a softer bottom. Caribbean, use more care and visually watch the bottom. |

I sail the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico a lot. If you have over 3 fathoms of water it's a miracle. Usually have less than 5' of water under the keel. |
