I do think these people would be pretty low risk for the Covid 19 virus, because it hasn't got...

Actually, although the Americans COULD get to US territory, the humanitarian reason to stay in NZ is as El Pinguino suggested: Much more likely to catch Covid 19 back in the States!

I apologize if I offended any Americans by what I wrote, equatorial route, then heading North to HI. Look at the pilot charts for it. IMO it is doable, and I know boats who have taken the route. ...

It would be safe to exclude Americans; they can sail to HI. Doable along the equatorial route, then peeling north.
