The UV coated thread lasts about 4 yrs. where it is exposed to direct sunlight, underneath a fixed bimini, possibly longer. It stays good where it is covered by the Sunbrella.

Honestly, I'd stay with the grey, at least for the exterior. The black is sort of invisible at night. A lighter color shows you exactly where they are.
