If you need to move your boat everyday I bet it would be a better deal to invest in the solar/electric motor system after a few years. You at least have a good guess as to what your running costs...

How many panels could you fit on your boat?

Electric propulsion is not a 'new' thing. It works. There just needs to be some more work done on it and some advances to make it work even better.
