Re: Classic Boats?

Some folks love these two Good Old Boats.

The Cape Dory has the salty stern wheel I think.

The Tartan 34C appears to be in a bit better shape though.

Re: Classic Boats?

I don't spent time to do a perfect job.

I may scrub the deck then paint with a brush when I feel like it ....deck and cockpit. Plus interior.

With EZ-Poxy one part.

As for performance a J/30 or Catalina 30 have as much waterline as that Invicta 38 at 25'

Re: Classic Boats?

I just did the hull and topsides on my boat again. (4th time for the hull, 3rd for the topsides)

Still have to repaint the decks, cabin, and cabin sole.

Am also in the process of replacing the...

Re: Classic Boats?

My Good Old Boat was basically a free boat.

I wouldn’t pay $40,000 or so for an old design,

I have basically just paid for maintenance and minimal upgrades over the last 13 years.

Re: Classic Boats?

I'm going by his post number 88.

Btw my boat is a 1974 Bristol with zero blisters.

Good Old Boats are out there but harder to find these days.

Re: Classic Boats?

That's what it seems to say.

"Deck and cabin trunk molded fiberglass."

That tells you the boat is ancient, but you would already know that as they were build in the 1960's.

The boom is 16'...

Re: Classic Boats?

So the Pearson Invicta 38 has a top theroetical speed of 6.70 knots which is about .74 knots faster than my Bristol 27 if the Skipper knows how to sail it.

Whereas a new design of that size is...

Re: Classic Boats?

May be but they will not point with their short waterline and are hard to dock as most older boats had a full keel.

Re: Classic Boats?

First it indicates how old the boat is which is a big problem right off.

Then you are adding the extra weight with a totally fiberglassed boat.

Boats are enough trouble to maintain without...

Re: Classic Boats?

You really wouldn't want a totally fiberglass boat.

Maybe start looking at boats built in the mid to late 70's and on.

Plus no centerboard.

Re: Classic Boats?

Yep, definitely looks like it.

There was a Vancouver 27 a couple boats down from me in the yard late last year.

The owner had an Australian Accent and used some down under expressions every now...

Re: Classic Boats?

It doesn't backup very well though so I'm lucky I have the outboard especially on windy days.

I've had about 12 boats with this one being my 6th sailboat, but first boat I've ever had to dock or...

Used in conjunction with the tiller.

Re: Classic Boats?

My boat will be 50 years old in July. It was an estate sale, and I got it for $2,000. It didn't have a for sale sign on it when I bought it.

I was sailing it within 2-3 weeks after purchase. It...

Re: Classic Boats?

That Invicta 38 is ancient. (1960-1965) Only 21 built.

https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/invicta-tripp/

The rudder looks tiny so docking could be a problem unless you are skilled in that area...

Re: Classic Boats?

Definitely not for your average person.

Maybe because it's up in Oxford, MD is why the price is so outrageous.

Re: Classic Boats?

There was a Baba 30 on Yachtworld for $20,000 or so until recently.

I paid $2,000 for my boat in 2011 so I guess I'll stay with that one for now.

I'm hearing though a nice Alberg 30 may be up...

Re: Classic Boats?

It looks like a maintenance nightmare with that decking.

It's a 36' boat with only 25' of waterline.

9.3 beam!

Less than a knot faster than my boat. A 1974 Bristol 27.

Re: Classic Boats?

Hopefully you have a lot of experience docking because those old full keel or cutaway keel boats are tough to dock.

Mine is smaller and has an outboard so it's easy more me since I can turn the...
