Re: What are the Slowest Cats?

Were you talking about the Americas cup? Which was traditionally a monohull event. When multis first appeared there was an outcry similar to the one you had regarding the hydrofoils.

Re: What are the Slowest Cats?

Impressive times. I averaged close to 8K from Toau in the Tuamotos to Tahiti. I was going for broke as I would have arrived after dark. There is no way my average speed is anywhere near that. ...

Re: What are the Slowest Cats?

If you follow that argument to its logical conclusions it is also "absurd" that they allows cats to race at all. Its confuses the public in regard to real boats which are monohulls.

My point...

Re: What are the Slowest Cats?

Why is adding water negating the buoyancy? I assume the water is tankage? Would the centerboard version be carrying no water? If they both have the same tankage the one with the lar keel tanks...

Re: What are the Slowest Cats?

If you can truly average over 6K you will be at the pointy end of all cruising boats, mono or multi. From all reports I have seen cats and monos have roughly the same average cruising speeds by the...

Re: What are the Slowest Cats?

The other day I saw a very experienced mono sailor (RTW multiple times) question why you would bother to put weighted lead keels on a cat, when a respected designer mentioned keels on cats. The...

Re: What are the Slowest Cats?

The whole idea of a multi having faster speed potential than a (non planing ULDB) mono is because they can exceed hull speed without planing.

Hull speed is the function of the size/length of the...

Re: What are the Slowest Cats?

ArtM has "blind faith" in catamarans. Or is trolling. I have already shown that for the same price he can buy a mono which by his own definitions is better for him. The mono has considerably...

Re: What are the slowest cats?

But the slowest cats have the most room inside, and despite this, they still have less interior space than the comparably priced mono. I know this is getting into another mono VS cat thread but...

Re: What are the slowest cats?

I would first like to say I like fast cruising cats. Something like a Chris white would be my lotto boat. It has fasts and decent accommodation and looks nice IMO. The owners of cats like this...
