I give up! Cannot follow this thread any longer. Worse than a Nigerian 401 scam. Lots of good advice give. None followed. It might sound harsh but you do not need a tow ASAP.

The towing insurance will not tow you from Ft. Lauderdale to Jacksonville.

I take it the engine is overheating. Your partner is a mechanic so this should not be a big problem. It is usually the elbow or heat exchanger. Stripping and muriatic acid usually does the trick...

I think the OP said he had a working engine. (post # 18). That's not their problem. After 76 post nobody knows what the problem is. So lashing a dink to the boat will not help.

Towing them to open water might be less than helpful and might even endanger them.

I think most of us would tow someone to safety. The OP is safely in a slip and wants to be towed to "open water" ( I presume...
