O rings are dirt cheap if bought at a bearing service stores and probably the most likely things to get damaged during assembly.

The design by the OP is a brilliant piece of work and I tend to the opinion that one could not improve on it from a risk/reward viewpoint.

That's an indication that the cylinders were not filled with fluid when the plunger changed direction. You might even be able to make it quieter with a pulsation damper on the pump suction as close...

Great little pumps however they are only two cylinders which puts a lot of pressure pulses into the output. Gadgets called pulsation dampeners will quieten the noise created by the pulses but I doubt...

How about an image or two. I have a 40E and have been thinking of doing the same thing. I get a severe case of wallet choke every time I look at the price of a replacement membrane from Katadyne.

Yep, a technology which has been under utilized. I pondered making one of about 12 square metres fixed on either side of the boom to double as a deck shade.
