This is getting to be more and more of a problem. Perfectly good equipment having to be replace, often by inferior, because of lack of spares.

I carried around a wire with a swage fitting on one...

You could switch to a stainless wire of similar construction for a little higher wire cost and achieve rigging with extended working life for even less overall cost.

Your instincts are sound Cheechako. Engineers describe keeping the column straight as "in column" and when the column goes out a whole new set of bending parameters come into play.

Definitely stay with the Stayloks and going up a size on the wire did much more good than harm.

I had a couple of failures with the roll form terminals and found that on both occasions the failure...
