I would expect that these monitors would probably work on Win 10; if in doubt just shoot their sales or tech team an email.

That's correct - formatting is part of the install! You're turning a garden-variety USB memory stick into a bootable stick.

I hear you... but 12 hr of a 5w computer = 60 Watt-hours, which would also support 30w for 2 hours ;). And net-books also have a sleep or no-display mode too.

I have 2 Raspberry Pi's doing...

I've thought about Android, but I am concerned that the Android 'universe' of apps and online info is alot smaller than Linux. What Android apps would you use for navigating?

Re drivers... make a list of all the things you need drivers for, and then go have a look (https://www.linux-drivers.org/), or just try it (running a live Linux distro from CD or USB on your windows...
