I may have mis-interpretted what was inferred by no keels or dagger boards.
You are right in terms of where the center of lateral resistance would be of
a keel or dagger board. More amidships....

That is not correct. Although they do not have what is termed a "dagger board or keel"most have fins which do the same thing- give the craft directional stability,
keeping the "stern" the following...

You need the rudder full immersed & not bow down or your toast.
Every one on the transom please!
The "kickout" needs to be done with hull speed also, once you have x component sideways you aint...
