All this is very scientific. Its not that complicated in reality is it.

How about some real-life examples?

35ft cat about 4.5 tons.
Anchor is a 20kg Spade and a 14kg Kobra2 as backup.

Actually, off the seabed does not mean stretched fully straight. Catenary still buffers.

I'd still use at least some chain followed by oversized (to reduce the chafe risk) Dyneema and a reasonably...

Of course it doesn't. Read what I wrote. If one wanted to take a gamble on going light:

Anchor
Reasonably short chain
Dyneema (fairly abrasion resistant)
Riding weight (possibly)
Elastic...

I'm just thinking out loud here.

Dyneema as well as Aramid are highly abrasion resistant.
How about a short piece of high tensile chain, an oversized Dyneema rope combined with a riding weight...

Usually the S&L gypsies have a number marked on the flat side of their underside. The number code refers to the chain measure in the manual.
