Sorry I thought you were joking. So the other 6 quarts the OP put in the engine went where. In the case of the 3jh2e, the lift pump, is located on the lower side of the injector pump housing... |

I'm sure your aware that a primary symptom of a bad Yanmar lift pump (well most engine driven lift pumps) is that fuel will leak into the oil causing the oil level to rise. It's quite common and... |

I think he said he removed the coolant hoses and did not see any oil in the coolant side of the heat exchanger. But I bet the engine was cold when he tested it too. Maybe only a few minute run. ... |

Well that all cylinders are working find is a very good sign. Did you check that the crankcase breather was clear. That is take the hose of the valve cover and blow into it. IF clogged it... |

That sheen on the water tells you its coming from the engine or oil cooler. 2 quarts in 1.5 hours is massive. I had three broken rings on one piston and only used 1 quart every 12 hours or so. plus... |
