In the case of the 3jh2e, the lift pump, is located on the lower side of the injector pump housing...

I'm sure your aware that a primary symptom of a bad Yanmar lift pump (well most engine driven lift pumps) is that fuel will leak into the oil causing the oil level to rise. It's quite common and...

I think he said he removed the coolant hoses and did not see any oil in the coolant side of the heat exchanger. But I bet the engine was cold when he tested it too. Maybe only a few minute run.

Well that all cylinders are working find is a very good sign.

Did you check that the crankcase breather was clear. That is take the hose of the valve cover and blow into it. IF clogged it...

That sheen on the water tells you its coming from the engine or oil cooler. 2 quarts in 1.5 hours is massive. I had three broken rings on one piston and only used 1 quart every 12 hours or so. plus...
