What you describe _might_ be locale related. Decimal point/comma and misinterpreting/rounding the numbers seem to me to point in this direction. Maybe some IO procedures are not locale agnostic?

Sorry, no, the latest version available for this Ubuntu distribution is 3.1.59.

Same goes for my nav PC, which has a slightly newer Ubuntu (10.10) but still not modern enough it seems.

Current WFax plugin source does not compile for me, so I can not test.
(Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS. Yes, ancient, but OpenCPN source compiles OK. Gotta upgrade that laptop someyear soon ;) )

In addition, capturing sound requires very precise time sync. May be quite difficult to do from within a plugin. A lot of technical details are on JWX home page.
