I'm also a pilot, and while living in Alaska '92~'93, I met a lot of plane owners that never bothered to get a pilot's license. They just were taught by a friend, cleared some land...

It was generally an hour flight for me too. Always equal time on vs time off. Gulf 2 and 2, Brazil and North Sea 4 and 4.

Have two in common, lab tech and bartender. I don't have the legs for modeling and went the Merchant route for duties at sea.
