I can tell you why in my case...because Im a cruiser so they have failed in inconvenient locations to return them. Ive also bought some in Central America which have failed...returns/warranty are...

I switched entirely to Johson pumps a couple of seasons ago because I was fed up with problems with Rule products. They have worked well....but....just had one develop problems recently....aargh!

Admittedly most bilges are a tough environment, but of course the product should be engineered, and installed, with that in mind.

Some newer boats I've run are starting to use diaphram pumps...
