Having done this a few times, an important consideration, especially if looking in less "developed" countries is travel access. Rio Dulce, Guatemala for example is a great option, but getting there...

Yes, once you leave Guate City, infrastructure can get pretty sparse in Guate.

Antigua is quite nice, but its also far from the coast. Its closer to the Pacific coast, but Guate's Pacific coast...
