Re: Capsize Ratio's

That's true if done in female mold..

Re: Capsize Ratio's

Mostly agree with you with some preservations thou. With wooden core, endgrain balsa, strip planking or cold molded, the main issue is barrier coating. It's the best insurance against rot if some...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

Concur :P
You can't beat the facts, but it's possible to do it right too. Just by using male mold, wooden core, better resins & fabrics, and skilled labour, thou that costs some..

Re: Capsize Ratio's

Lot of hype...
Light doesn't mean stronger and what comes to boats it's never so.. Said it before and here it is again.

Re: Capsize Ratio's

Most often IMO these problems are related to use of female mold during the build. There's no way to control how well core attaches to outer skin..

Re: Capsize Ratio's

You are not the only one. Me thinks nobody has the ultimate truth of wave induced capsizes and the forces involved. Not that it could be possible in a simplified scenario in a tow tank, but there's...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

But there are no two boats such comparison could be possible. As I said earlier boats are build up to meet some rule or standard. These have a bad habit (from your point of view) of taking into...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

:D and twice the structure to withstand it.. No seriously, both hulls would disintegrate without a doupt (there's no thumb down smilie). However this totally irrelevant subject or do you know such...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

How could I explain this.. err.. Most cruising boats equal size don't have so much difference in weight that it should matter, but if we take a simplified example of the extremes, two boat's other 4t...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

It's not a comparison like feather vs stone . Think about it more like crashing head on on a wall, water can be hard sometimes :banghead: and it has nothing to do with thge weight of our...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

Sorry being so negative all the time , the weight of the boat doesn't change anything. It's still the gravity that drops the boat and it's allways 10m/s² and the end velocity down in...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

Lighter yes, stronger no. Old rules for plank on frame construction had enermous safety factors compared what's used today. That's mostly becouse the advances happened in the engineering practices as...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

Strong is relative term. Production boats, such as any boat for sale to public, has to be build compliant to some standard. The most common standard nowadays isISO 12215. Designing a boat is pretty...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

And if we omit the the fact that such boat doesn't really exist Ross would be right on the spot. However the fact is every ounce saved in one place is regularly found else where (in the keel bulb...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

But we shoudn't talk here about sailing in moderate weather (remember op capsize ratio thou we have slipped away some) instead of circumstances where capsize is a possibility. In a weather like that...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

What I'd like to see from Pollux is a evidence instead of claims.. and what an age rasist too. Who decides they must be actual? Only time will judge the real value of their work.

Re: Capsize Ratio's

There's obviously some misunderstanding what is static stability vs dynamic stability. Beamy boat having high initial stability in calm seas will, by it's very nature, follow every wave contour...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

Nope.. draft to Clr is more relevant in this regard. Beam affects are more depending of the Cg and sometimes quite opposite way you suggest. It's true only if all other things are kept the same and...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

Polux, latest hydrodynamics findings aim for speed and most of the newly desings have happily forgotten the "old" findings. Speaking of the subject boat length, beam, depth of clr and the size of the...

Re: Capsize Ratio's

To get some logic into this it would be beneficial to read (or reread) Tony Marchaj's Seaworthiness the forgotten factor..
There's a "twist" in high initial stability... waves ;)

Re: Capsize Ratio's

Quite strange choice to compare these two boats.. Why not take a bit bigger "narrow" boat like Tuiga instead of Contessa. Tels you excatly the same.. Bigger is better:whistling:
