Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

As I said in the previous post about the difference. Most marine battery banks aren't maintained or cycled as good manner as UPS so they are more prone to ageing before their time ie abusing...

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

Rod, there was no time limit neither the environment of installation nor the quality of batteries defined. But the scale is right, ad a zero or two if it makes you happy :flowers:

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

Don't be naive, nobody saying a couple of batteries parallel are patently unsafe. A bit increased risk, yes. But every battery more in parallel increases the risk and also the consequences if...

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

 1# Wouldn't pay either such prices when there are high quality 1000Ah OPzS batteries 400€ / pc, 2400€ for six. Which by the way can deliver 200A at 5h rate and even more. Wan't to be cheap...

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

1. and 2. In both cases your have to identify the faulty unit before any measures. In the case of series measures can wait for a while without complications. Parallel can't.

3. When or if it is...

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

Yes it is. You have said it multiple times, not going to pickup quotes but your messege has been about "paralled batteries short is easy to detect becouse unknown current draw / series batteries will...

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

So you are basicly claiming it's impossible to notice a voltage drop (series setup) but instanly be aware of amps drain to a shorted cell (parallel)

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

You are living in the Laalaa land? First there's difference between shorts in a cell. Normally once short develops it will start with high resistance and is very hard to notice. If the boat is left...

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

So you instal a temperature sensor then?
Have to admit, installing batteries in a cramped damp hot inaccessible box being cheap is the winner. But as said before this site is cruiser forum, not...

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

Please explain, That statement is totally false unless batteries are installed too tight preventing air circulation between batteries. Every manufacturer have the minimum distances in their...

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

The capasity correlates better with plate area and the volume of electrolyte, not plate thickness. There's physical limits how thin a plate can be and how much of the thickness is usable during a...

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

Just to point that trying to fit a bigger (Ah) battery in the same footprint compromises something as longevity and deepcycle performance. It's not much anyone can do for lead-acid chemistry..

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

Doesn't matter as opinions are meaningless, the facts and science matters. Once we acknowledge the facts we can do educated desicions even if that means taking somekind of risks one way or another.....

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

To protect the wire yes, but very idea is to prevent runaway battery meltdown. Quess twice what's left of the batteries with 1.2kW warm up for.. how many you said there were in parallel? 6? so 5...

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

There lies the caveat. To be safe the fuses had to be for reasonably low current and that works against having a big paralled battery bank unless the charging source is low current too and no bigger...
