Re: Flushing the FW side

I hooked up the heaters last night and was a little apprehensive quite honestly. The apprehension was not well founded however and the heaters both work superbly, while at the same time, the engine...

Flushing the FW side

Yes, these temps will work. Thanks for your help, it was much appreciated. It would appear I'm on the low side of the temperature curve. Any opinion on the radiator cap pressure/temperature...

Re: Flushing the FW side

Quick follow up.

The flushing and cleaning of the heat exchanger, along with new thermostat, radiator cap, and some hoses, has turned my engine into the smooth running beastie I've come to know...

Re: Flushing the FW side

Good Morning Jim,

Thanks for asking, and yes, while I originally planned on taking the tube stack from the heat exchanger into a shop, i couldn't get the tube stack out of the heat exchanger and...

Re: Flushing the FW side

I just finished the removal, cleaning, and replacement of the heat exchanger on my Perkins M-50.

The space in between the tubes in the heat exchanger was a solid mass of hardened gunk.

I...

Re: Flushing the FW side

No, it didn't seem oily. It had/has crystalline build up at almost all of the fittings. The translucent globules when pinched were sometimes soft and sometimes hard, as if the soft crap was in the...

Re: Flushing the FW side

Really? I'll have to go back and reread it. I remember one or two, I guess I should pay more attention.

Re: Flushing the FW side

I saw one a year and a half ago for $400. I shoulda grabbed it.

I got the heat exchanger off today, it's all aluminum. The crud that was in it was incredible. Lots of build up of hard deposits...

Re: Flushing the FW side

Then I should return the pink and purple that Zee and Sailorchickee recommended?

I have the paint already. I'm going to replace some OEM hoses as well. I'm not sure about the aluminum, I'll...

Flushing the FW side

The amount of gunk built up on the heat exchanger tube stack was pretty bad. Over a third of the holes are closed completely.

Now I can't get the tube to release from the heat exchanger body. I...

Re: Flushing the FW side

I just noticed that the MD22 doesn't have a manual oil pump for evacuating the oil from the engine.
I wonder why they did that?

Re: Flushing the FW side

O.K., what does "wet sleeved" mean?
And what kind of additive prevents cavitation?
And how does that lead to pin holes in what cylinders? The heat exchanger?

Re: Flushing the FW side

I'm going to use Prestone's flush product.

I didn't know about the DexCool issues before today. Yes, I did indeed find coagulated gunk when I stuck my finger in the radiator cap hole. More...

Re: Flushing the FW side

Those are all good points that I hadn't thought about, thanks everyone.

I think mine might be pretty cruddy if my past experiences with the PO maintenance program hold true.
