I'm pretty sure the canting keelers are allowed powered winches also.

Edit: I'm quite sure - I saw a powered winch being used during the start coverage.

AFAIK autopilots aren't allowed during fully crewed races. I don't think powered winches should be allowed in fully crewed races either. To me the boats should be powered by the wind and human beings...

Well, yes. I don't think they should be using anything other than wind and crew power to sail the boat. Communications etc can be electric or whatever they like, but the actual sailing of the boat...

It's got nothing to do with lead. The majority of the boats in the race don't need to run their engines, and they all have keels and ballast, so lead has nothing to do with it.
