i would guess that a dinghy with about 750kg of bouyancy with a cat displacing 8-10,000 kgs on top of it is not going to do a lot.

though a 9ft dinghy with a 15-25hp engine could probably tow a...

it would remove all possibility of getting ashore if the boat broke up or sank further,and force them to use the liferaft to get ashore...not something you want to do in croc infested...

i'm surrounded by big traditional wooden sailing boats,some of them over 100 years old,most get a fresh coat of paint every year or so, so dings get painted over and add to their authenticity!

that does not look good.
but one has to wonder what they were doing sailing at night in an area of uncharted reefs where there are 30 ft tides,where there are many know and unknown dangers clearly...
