Correct.
The approach is to have progressive filtration to both extend the filter life and minimize the pressure drop.

We sell the 5 and 20 micron pleated prefilters for $9ea.
These will work on Spectra and all the standard water maker manufacturers that use the 10" filter housings.

There is no such thing as "normal" because time to filter cleaning and change out is totally Dependant on your sea water source. In the La Paz estuary I would clean mine every 2-3 weeks and replace...
