Good idea, maybe.

On a different note, my insurance company requires an EPIRB for any journey to the Bahamas. Never heard that before but they are much cheaper than BoatUS so the EPIRB paid for...

In the above accident with a loss of the vessel and the crew, it seems human error was in play with a crew member not...

No, that is BS.
Not much you can do protecting your nogging against a meteorite.
Sailing and boating however is pretty old tech and we have all learned from our ancestors eons ago.

It appears that seat-belt laws in cars and airplanes have saved thousands of life's over the years.
Would you rather have those removed to make it a personal decision to fasten seat belts?

I agree, common sense.
Saving lives and saving time and resources in a search and rescue situation.
Some people thinks it restricts their freedom and that big Government is taking over. :rolleyes:

You can't say that around here: This was an accident that was just bad luck and it could happen to anybody. It had nothing to do with planning, judgement or seamanship :(

Living on a crap boat at a dock because you are poor is fine.
Taking the same boat offshore without a radio in bad weather is stupid, and deadly, no excuses.
