I prefer them at the mast myself. simplicity and a lot less friction. No big tangled mess of lines in the cockpit /companionway etc. No restriction of room under the dodger trying to use a winch... |

As stated above...Halyards, reef lines etc... and add: if it's a cutter they are often for the staysail. |
