Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic
:thumb: You have expressed my intent better than I. I have years ago recovered bodies out of a vehicle at night in a river for the local Police. Theseday under OHS regulations they would wait... |

Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic
Was not that the original vessel that located Cheeki Rafiki in bad conditions and the search was subsequently called off? Clearly they made the call at the time in the particular conditions and... |

Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic
I did indicate reasonable weather and I think your suggestion of chemical and bio hazards is a bit over the top. Can we be sure a body is not trapped in the hull without inspection? One of the... |

Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic
An experienced diver would not have any problems in reasonable weather. :thumb: Its not as if its a zero visability, currents, depth situation that divers regularly work in. Cheers |

Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic
Whilst the overall picture you cover is true and 55 sailors rescued is accurate it is also clear as Factor indicated the older traditional vessels did not do so well. What he was suggesting is that... |

Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic
The ocean can be unforgiving. Here is a link to a Bob Perry designed Passport 40-Custom constructed of steel built in Portland in 1988. Now at the bottom of the briney | what's left of a life... |

Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic

Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic
Whilst 2 production type vessels have been the last ones lost there have been two older more traditional types now at the bottom of the ocean. Fortunately both of those had crews lifted off. there... |

Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic
I would expect that even some of the real CF bluewater vessels could circum and have in these seas. Prior damage was all supposition on a vessel that had been pushed hard over many miles. we just do... |

Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic
Just don't suggest mandatory liferafts here. Bad enough to suggest EPIRBS to USA cruisers. :banghead: And dry suits or immersion suits. |

Re: UK yacht Cheeki Rafiki missing in mid-Atlantic
John, very much agree. In Australia they have times also for survivability in the water as well which they use to base search time. In the 70’s I was involved in a search for a missing diver in the... |

Seems to be plenty of maintenance issues as vessels age. Can also add plenty of rigging issues/failures to that list. :thumb: |
