Skipper parked it on the Brambles a sand bank in the Solent; I think during a race. I watched them lift the boat up from floating on its side to upright again a couple of days later with a crane so...

Well here is another keel that fell off after they parked it on a sand bank, but no one was hurt. Shame nice boat.

This is exactly my point, higher manufacturing costs without a real need have consigned long keel hulls to history unless demand from yachties changes, which is unlikely. So the choice is lots of...

So can you buy a new one of these yachts with a fully encapsulated keel, say from one of the large yacht producers?

Some of us have two keels btw, so that is twice the risk at sea :D but damned useful when you want to dry out without needing a crane and a boat yard.

Paul hi and welcome. Tens of thousands of yachts sailing around Europe with fin keels and very few have problems. Indeed if you visit any of the big us and European boat shows I think you will...
