Vector charts are becoming the dominant force in charting ( see IMO ECDIS requirements etc), simply because they represent the underlying data better,

Vector data is "understood" by the chart...

IMO approved ECDIS systems are set out for ships etc. In practice you can replicate the same typical features in modern charttplotters including redundancy.
