Re: Electrical Panel replacement
Well not in my case , I know the manufacturer well , really well and he has enough spares to see me out . If a electronic breaker fails I can simply swop it out like a mechanical breaker I see... |

Re: Electrical Panel replacement
Sorry , you are reaching , firstly the use of mast head tricolours is unusual , certainly around here. Secondly the actual chance of a switch alternating say between tricolour and anchor failing... |

Re: Electrical Panel replacement
Breakers don’t provide redundancy either. If it fails the circuit is disabled. So I don’t follow your logic here. Breakers are not good switches and are not rated so. My next project is... |

Re: Electrical Panel replacement
I tend to avoid the cheaper thermal breakers like those shown in the picture above. My experience is they are very poor switches and many boats use the breakers as switches. I had ones on a 1988 boat... |

Re: Electrical Panel replacement
Building a simple panel , need not be expensive , just don’t source anything from “ marine “ suppliers. Electrical breakers can be sourced through electronic component supply houses. Panels can be... |

Re: Electrical Panel replacement
Aluminium boat needs both custom bonding (In fact fully isolated zero bonding , and should in my view have a completely isolated dc system. The hull should never be part of the electrical system. ... |

Electrical Panel replacement
Any system that provides a low resistance path for the strike to exit , protects the boats systems ( and physical hardware ) to a greater or lessor extent. The issue all boils down to degree. I had... |

Re: Electrical Panel replacement
To prevent n2k propagation you’d need all devices disconnected from each other a central nema2000 connector hub would facilitate this assuming the drop lengths remain within spec , which they will on... |

Electrical Panel replacement
All my gear was powered off at the breakers but the nmea 2000 definitely facilitated the propagation of the strike , disconnecting all the Seatalk cabling isn’t practical , as it would require... |

Electrical Panel replacement
In relation to thinned wires. No doubt anything on the outside of the boat absolutely needs tinning but I cut into my 18 year old below deck wiring internally recently and some was untinned and in... |
