The size of the boat doesn't matter. As long as the OP realises what he has and eases into it properly. Get help from instructors do your sail training.

having delivered several 50 footers for new clients , and that was their first boat , let me add my tuppence.

A 50 footer can seem too big or small depending on how you sail, with who do you sail...
