This is actually a perkins block. So definitely their design. Direct bell housing mount, and motor has the positive solenoid throw

And yes, i have a spare aftermarket motor. Havent tried it...

Is there a feature on the shaft/nosepiece that limits bendix travel?

Not an old starter. And bendix looked fine, even some grease remnants on shaft.
I couldnt get any play on the shaft end bearing.

Got a Volvo pent MD2030. Recently developed a grinding with cranking. Took off the starter, had a spare. Saw some ring gear marks, apparently the pinion gear is overextending.
So, i did space...
