Re: Where do we flag our boat?

Two things about this:

1. A cruising license does not, indeed, exempt a foreign-flagged vessel from the onerous requirement to report your every movement.

See:...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

You can register in Florida just like you can in Delaware. We told you that already. The problem is getting Coast Guard documentation, which you can't do as a natural person and foreign citizen. I...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

Welcome to the world of international bureacracy :)

As I said, the world is not set up for people like us. And I totally agree that it is idiotic that a permanent resident can't register his own...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

This, in any case, is absolutely true.

Especially for a boat worth more than a million --

It's very good to discuss with a lot of people and get an idea of what's involved.

But at the end of...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

You have a US citizen daughter? Why didn't you say so? :)

That greatly simplifies everything. Yes, you can do EXACTLY as you said. That works in Delaware and in all states which follow the...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

Very little in this world, alas, is set up to be convenient for people who, like you and me, wander from country to country.

If you flag in the UK, you can't register in Florida, and you will be...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

Yes, that's all correct :flowers:

Note that there is not one word there about shareholders.

So you can set it up with three directors, two of whom are Yanks, or a single Yankish director, and...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

I don't think you're confused -- I think you've got it down pretty well.

UK Part 1 will be much better for you if you are cruising in Europe. It's much simpler than US registration because the UK...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

Sorry, yes, I misunderstood you! :flowers:

For Pashenkova, I guess the German Internationaler Bootsschein will be the simplest and most straightforward.

UK Part 1 through a UK company would...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

No, you were right the first time. Read it carefully:

"In addition to individuals, corporations, partnerships, and other entities capable of holding legal title may be deemed citizens for...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

Sorry, but here you are not correct. A US corporation is a US citizen. A US corporation is a person -- a legal person, as opposed to a natural person (a person of flesh and blood). It has nothing...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

Useful clarifications; thanks!

For UK: Yes, for Part I registration, a non-European citizen needs a UK company. There is no requirement of any kind of ownership or control by UK or European...

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

Not being an EU citizen, Belgium won't work for Pashenkova without a Belgian company.

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

Check out Belgium while you're at it. AFAIK, there is no residence requirement for EU citizens.

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

Registering through a company is not circumventing anything - it's a completely normal practice. 99% of ships are registered this way.

Re: Where do we flag our boat?

False.

Most countries, including the UK and Germany, register boats according to residence, not citizenship.

And all countries register absolutely anyone's boat, if you set up a company in that...
