Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I'm no authority on the matter, but I believe the Bugel was one of, if not the, first modern rollbar anchors. By most accounts I've found, it was a big step forward from the Bruce/CQR/Delta designs....

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I like your priority list, this is similar to what I've been thinking. A big reason I picked the Excel over the Spade was the one piece design, and the solid shank. It reduces the tip weight percent,...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Maybe I'm misunderstanding some of what you're saying, but it seems to me that you're working yourself up over relatively little.

You can of course argue for comparing anchors in a number of...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Hi Steve, that's a really interesting new data set for the Excel design. I've wondered for a while about how performance scales with size/weight for any given design, and I think it's probably...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Yeah, I wonder about that. I'm guessing they wanted to avoid any issues with re-galvanization, like with the Spade. I'm curious if it is dimensionally different. How would they achieve the same...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Another fantastic test video! Perhaps the rollbar brings the anchor from 42lbs to 44lbs.

I contacted Lewmar about this anchor, and they told me that the stainless version is all 316 with a lead...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Thanks Steve, I'm really interested to hear what they say.

That's fair, thanks for explaining.

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Great test video, as always! Please let us know if Mantus has any thoughts on the possible defect. I could easily see it being something they didn't have on their quality control radar, and maybe...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Thanks Steve. Is the shank then noticeably off to one side? Does it remain inline with the center of the fluke? Do you think you could post a couple pictures showing how off center it is and how big...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Hi Steve, thanks for this new video.

Looking at the assembly diagram on Mantus' website, it looks like the aluminum bushing either sits in the hole in the shank, or it presses the shank over to...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Another great video Steve! I'm excited to see the Mantus M2 results. Do you know when you'll be able to test the 45lb versions of these anchors?

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Thanks Steve for another great video!

I had some thoughts about your rating system, and I think overall it's a pretty good way of doing it. What it also allows is for your audience to customize...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I was in the process of creating a reply that would bring up size and scale and got sidetracked. This reply makes the point well, I think that as you scale these anchors up, a lot of these problems...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

The cold water of your cruising grounds probably explain the good condition of your Spade.

Thanks Steve for another great video with really important new information! This video (and the previous loose mud video) really highlights that there are other performance considerations than just...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Hi Steve, thanks for more great test videos. In regards to this one, do you feel like this failure of the Spade to hold was a fluke? (no pun intended:biggrin:) Or do you feel like it was a pretty...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

This is really interesting. I had pretty much decided to upgrade to a larger Spade, given it has the quickest set/reset speed and consistency and that the Excel had a few resets where it dragged a...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

That's great, but I don't get the feeling that they still operate that way. I contacted them, explaining that I had just bought a boat with a Spade and all I was asking was whether the state of the...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

That's the only incident I've heard of. I think after that they went to nyloc, or they already had the nyloc and added the cotter pin. Something like that. The one helpful thing I got from Spade's...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I definitely don't think that it is an issue of any debris being in the way, or anything that could be removed by cleaning it up. If anything, it is a problem due to the lack of material. With the...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Spade. It adds to an already large pile of anecdotal and testing data that supports the Spade as the best performing option for roll-bar-less anchors.

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I wouldn't say cost isn't an issue, but if it makes sense, I'm not opposed to paying for something better or for something that works better for me. But obviously, I could get two Spade S180's for...
