Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

They are here! Incredibly strong, lightweight and smooth for paint. Excited!

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Well, I already got them. BUT, they are bases and tops for support columns.

The columns they hold in place are under compression loads.

Tensions loads possible if I’m at a dock and a...

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Ok. Thank you for that information and technique.

I could just through bolt the set screws too. If I’m willing to look at the set screws on one side of the piece. Maybe tap and thread the far...

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

First paragraph was because I need them to look nice. A carbon fiber look should do, I think.

Ah. Yes. Sorry. Set screws. You did say that.

Hmmm. They would go through the tube I’d think....

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

The tube is FRP to keep weight off the boat.

The flanges are, of course, through bolted, not screwed into the foam core laminate. Screwing them in would be incredibly shoddy work. Like a...

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Why do you come in here with some ideas then turn into a complete jerk?

I won’t put up with this type of BS. Don’t project your broken dreams and misery on my build.

You owe me an apology. ...

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Found them! In FRP.

3” ID so I can put the support column inside.

3lbs each! About $50.

I’ll paint them for looks.

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

It might be because no one knows the answer. Asking a few different places, I’ve seen a huge variation.

Custom is a bad idea I think. I just need a 3” version of what I linked to in the original...

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

I know. I saw you drew a stub flange (collar inside). For styling, I’m trying to do collar outside so it looks more appealing the the dead end of a support column sitting on a flange.

I already...

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Did you just draw that up girl this thread??

Thank you so much for taking the time to create a picture of them in action

I’m trying to avoid the stub flanges. There are some stub flanges in...

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

I agree with that. But these need to look really nice. Yacht quality. It’s what you stare at all day long looking out from the boat. They are on the aft beam.

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Hey, now this is the kind of post I like.

Giving me a good smack upside the head to remind me every pound counts.

The columns these flanges are for are composite to save weight, but I’m all...

Just to share what all the responses are like, here’s one. And they say they have no idea where I can find them.

What ever happened to being nice and referring people to other suppliers when you...

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

They are called stub ends. That’s helped quite a bit. I’ve found a lot of places that make similar stub ends. But lots of mods needed.

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas, guys.

I guess because the machine shops were coming back to me saying they couldn’t reproduce this as it’s cast and not welded, I was believing them. I’ll keep...

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

The fabricators are telling me the part I’m looking at is cast.

That if they make one and weld it, it’ll look like crap.

The other ones at various places ass industrial pipe flanges.

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

I was just reading a different thread where you talked about the Boston Sanford and son.

Would love to visit that.

I guess I’m looking at machine shops now.

I’ve found them for my 2” columns. Now I need them for my 3” columns.

Can’t find them anywhere online.

Anyone know where to source the 3in version of this?
