I would never do that. Scary to think of what could happen there. The prop shaft turns so much faster when motoring, I would guess a few thousand rpm, versus just the few hundreds when free... |

I have two: they are both PMDC generators, not PMA, one each on each engine, coupled to a Morningstar MPPT charge controller. Both work great - I posted some actual performance figures earlier |
