Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Any particular reason for the fixed bobstay? Most are adjustable with a tang on the bowsprit and a bobstay chainplate secured to the hull. The bobstay itself being 1X19 wire or rod rigging with a...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Brass half oval is frequently used in these applications also. My teak rub rails are protected with brass half oval. It’s easy to shape, takes a gradual bend readily, and you just drill wherever...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

What purpose would a toe rail cap serve, as opposed to just just leaving it as is? Is it ornamental only or are you looking for abrasion resistance? Anodized aluminum is available from...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Coming along nicely. Regardless of what the tape manufacturers say masking tape should be applied when needed and removed ASAP. I’ve been through that nightmare before, never again. Interlux 202...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

I’m with you. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing I had mounted my winches to winch stands that resembled Swiss cheese. When I replaced my primaries with self-tailers the hole patterns...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Fantastic. You will be so happy you took the time and effort to do things properly once she’s in the water.

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Great seeing your updates. Your project is progressing nicely. Those EVO 40’s are a big winch for a 29 footer but one never hears complaints about too large a winch!

Something like this would be much more appropriate for your boat. The Herreshoff style cleat has...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

An errant line can snag a cotter ring, known widely as ring dings, and rip it out. A properly sized cotter pin will fit the hole in a clevis pin whereas cotter rings do not.

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Good to hear it’s on your list. You do not want to head offshore without one. I know it’s been done before but it’s very important to keep your interior dry and salt free. It adds immensely to...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Do you have a sea hood to house your companionway sliding hatch? This may have been mentioned previously but I’m too lazy to re-read 562 entries.

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Dinghy davits on a pocket cruiser just don’t work. Too much weight aft and too much windage for any sailing performance with a dinghy hanging six feet in the air off the stern.

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

I’d strip the remaining chrome off that beautiful bronze and buff it to an even luster......if you think it would look out of place with the remainder of your hardware you can have it commercially...

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Iroko is a good substitute for teak in many applications.

If your fiberglass patches are below the waterline just barrier coat and apply antifouling.

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

The included chart also has flow rates for water under pressure...not to be confused with gravity driven flow rates. But I'm just being polite, you knew that. Give it a try.....

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

This table indicates that the flow rate through 1” pipe at normal gravity will be 16 gallons per minute. This seems accurate in my experience.
Also, my cockpit drains (2) are both 1 1/2”. I would...
