I just prefer to pour oil directly on valve train since you know it's bone dry after 18 years and valve caps/rockers are bare.

And since you have valve cover off and injectors removed, spinning...

I'd pull injectors and run bore scope to look at cylinders. Shoot some mystery oil in there, roll over by hand. Reinstall injectors. Pull valve cover, relash valves. Change oil, dump fresh...
