Valid question, from the description (taking water but capsized later) it seems the keel didn't come off immediately but it should be definitely off - otherwise the boat would right itself.

Indeed, insurance takes its tax, but insurance companies tend to reduce the risks involved, e.g. ask for surveys, give discounts for trained skippers, etc.

Besides, a good policy covers things you...
