Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

Thanks for all of the great response. Jim the engine starts easily, runs smooth and strong. With the engine having only maybe 15 or so hours on her I haven't been brave enough to try a wide open...

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to go to the boat next weekend to check the positioning of the tube stack. Jim has a good point in that I have nothing to lose by checking this before I pull the head.

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

jimbunyard. Sounds like you have seen your fair share of cooling issues. Do you have any tips for how to eliminate each one of those possibilities?

1. I think I have good seals on the bundle. ...

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

Are you thinking that there is an updated model of the boman that has better cooling for this engine?

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

The original engine had a small exchanger on the back of the engine. I upgraded to the bowman PE180 combination manifold/exchanger/header tank with the new engine.

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

I did wonder if that was possible. I haven't tasted my coolant but my coolant has not changed colors at all that I can tell.

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

This is interesting. The problem is the same as the old engine except not quiet as bad. I could only turn about 1500 RPMs before over heating with the old engine.

There are however absolutely no...

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

Well the dealer is going to be no help. The engine sat in storage for over a year (not the original plan) and the warranty expired before installation. I tried talking to the owner at Foley...

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

That's my general opinion too. I'm thinking that I need to resolve the pressure issue first. That may resolve the high temp issues. If not then I'll focus on the raw water side.

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

Thanks Slowpoker. I'm not burning any oil and the rings only have 20 hours on them so failing a compression test will verify that I either have a blown gasket or cracked cylinder. If that is the...

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

Thanks Seabreez. I have not checked flow at all of these locations. I should be at the boat this weekend. I'll run these test. I've been looking for away to verify the head gasket problem. I...

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

I'd rather not pull the head but given that the pressure in the cooling system rises to 17+ PSI within 3-5 minutes of engine start I can only assume that over pressure could only be caused by a...

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

Good Idea. I'll try that. Does any one know how much water I should expect to pump? I don't know how much I am pumping per minute. I just know I have a lot of water exiting the exhaust port.

Re: New Engine - Same 4.107 over heating problem.

Thanks for all of the great advice. Let me answer some of your questions.

1. Thruhull Inlet size. I have a 3/4 inlet which is the same size as the input port on the raw water pump so I believe...
