Hmmm, that's an interesting thought. I like the ionizing tube idea, but given the scope of lightning, I would say the MOVs are not going to be useful (and, as you've noted, will introduce leakage)....

Still, it does seem really crazy to have a $170 ELCI (Bluesea 1502) whose sole mission in life is to trip if there is leakage in the 20-foot run between it and a Charles ISO-G2 isolation transformer....
