Re: Rolling Hitch on Snubber

There are those of us who regularly anchor in 6' of water, where chain cantenary does us little good at all. Ah, to be a deep draft mono on the Pacific coast...

No, wait, nevermind :D

Re: Rolling Hitch on Snubber

I expect the rubber snubber will be just fine for many years in Mystic. Down in the tropics, they won't give much life.

Re: Rolling Hitch on Snubber

You are not the only one. We don't have a problem running the chain hook (two hooks for us) over our roller and onto the deck. Likewise, Nick and a couple others also stated they had no problem.

Re: Rolling Hitch on Snubber

Our windlass uses a special handle tool for its clutch, which is kept in the anchor locker. But our windlass goes in both directions, so I would normally use the controls for slacking chain. If...

Re: Rolling Hitch on Snubber

Like everything else, practice solves that problem. You did better than me on your first splice. I think I spent 3 days and 15' of rope learning my first octoplait eye splice. Now I can put them...

Re: Rolling Hitch on Snubber

Do yourself a favor and replace that stopper chain with spectra line. A chain hook like Nick's attached to a spectra line connected to a midline cleat is our chain stopper.

Re: Rolling Hitch on Snubber

Or they have boats that allow them to anchor in 5' of water, where the hook lays on the bottom... :whistling:

re: Rolling Hitch on Snubber

Had the snubber line been in use for a long time and tied in pretty much the same spot each time? (I have ropes that get bowlines often tied in the end that can almost tie themselves they are so...

re: Rolling Hitch on Snubber

I think that is where the standing end of the line parted - the parted end is just resting there afterward.

Isn't your picture a rolling hitch? What's the difference?

re: Rolling Hitch on Snubber

In previous threads, didn't you introduce the icicle hitch? Would that load on the chain differently than a rolling hitch?

BTW, what do you find clumsy about a chain hook?
