Strange but true. The thing is, you might get by with a USCG captains licence - but I wouldn't bet my charter vacation on it.

In my experience they are equally recognized. We just went to charter in Greece and had no problems with the IPC. I have not heard of anyone having problems with the IPC being accepted - though I...

The International Proficiency Certification (IPC) from ASA will also work. The requirement for that is to have you ASA 104 - Bareboat Cruising Certification.
