considering all of the available information one would come to the conclusion that they are going to at least attempt to salvage the vessel. You said yourself that you are in contact with the owner...

agreed the canting keel is considerably different than our full lead encapsulated but unlike the canting keel ours won't fall off :-):-)

and it appears that the Ran Tan 2 is being salvaged.

I have always preceded my encapsulated lead full keelers myself . All have been old school offshore racers . The islander and this defender are both morc boats. The Spencer was just a long and lean .

Update the crew is safely on a 1,000 ton Mexican fishing vessel and in good spirits .
It also appears that they scuttled Ran Tan II

not really that impressive 99% of sailboats will stay upright without the ballast just don't try to sail with full canvas on anything but ddw :-):-):biggrin:

Hopefully the Mexican fishing boat that responded to the mayday call will take the vessel in tow to port for repairs .
