Yes much better solution than a Ripco one.
You can find out what amp rating it is if you have a clampmeter.
If you want your old alternator rebuilt I could do it should...

I think Repco has hitachi alternators, doubt KeriKeri would have one in stock but they may be able to get one in fairly quickly. Wont be cheap.

55 amp alternator is about 1.5 hp IIRC so not too...

I would replace with something else myself. Look up mainesails tutorial on Hitachi alternators or maybe its under battery charging on his site.
