you don't need to splice it just take the core out of the 8mm usually Sampson braid or similar stuff that holds up to sun and with you fid snake the 6mm actual halyard inside. stitch sew with wax...

mats right switch to spectra with rope sheaves. however the are uv sensitive so keep them inside the mast on messengers when you are not using the boat
