What water? The chainplates are sealed up on deck. I think as long as you periodically check for signs of that failing, you are fine to avoid any compound on the bolts themselves inside the boat. ... |

Great point. 2205 is the clear winner over the 300s. I wanted to go with 2205 for my rudder post last year, but was surprised to learn it wasn't available in my diameter. |

Hmm, maybe, although I wouldn't have guessed 316 was significantly more brittle than 304. And doesn't strain give corrosion an 'in', making 316 all the more important for a bent part out in the... |
