Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

sailjumanji - your use sounds similiar to mine.

I would be interested to know your spec in terms of battery size, charging etc and your current cruising ground.

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

I ike the sound of that system.

So I understand you have the shunt shifter on the positive supply into the house batteries and another shunter system (the same Blue Seas one) on the supply to the...

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

Do you mean 500mv or 50mv? I can see 50mv shunt are commonly available.

What meter do you use?

Presumably a 500A shunt is fine with 660AH house batteries?

Also do you mean 50mv, which seems...

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

Rom - how true, but I dont want to live on the hook, so that works fine as a by product. I am very happy to have three or four days at a time mind you.

I did think about Lithium actually, it wasnt...

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

Maine Sail - that is a very useful link.

If I have read it correctly (only so far had a quick read) and assuming the results are scaleable it seems to me I might manage the .2C rate (I have...

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

Alberto - thank you that is really helpful. It seems to me in the tropics my two (fridge and frezer) may run out at somewhere less than 200Ah a day which was the sort of number I had in mind.

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

Ok. So I use the gauge to measure the charge going in (with no load), and immediately switch off the charger, and read the charge going out (with a known load). Both pretty accurate we agree? Then...

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

Most commentators seem to emphasise the need to allow the batteries to "rest" for at least 4 hours (some say more) without any load in or out before the test. That effectively means disconnecting the...

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

I was thinking the same, and that's me having started the thread.

However, there is one thing I have grasped which is that on more complex boats the more you understand about the various systems...

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

With my set up it has (for some reason) just occurred to me that there are battery isolation switches for each of the four banks of batteries (house, engine, bow thruster and Genset). With the...

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

Thank you.

OK, so under load, no charging, the gauge tells me the batteries are discharging at say 10AH shown as -10AH. With the charger on, the load the gauge is now reporting is -4AH. By...

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

BTW I wonder if anyone knows of a data logger that would record to a card and capable of being uploaded to a PC battery data?

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

I dont entirely follow.

I am currently doing a full audit of my system, and in reasonable detail, but it is based on the information provided by the BMV.

So far I have logged the batteries...

So what do you reckon your daily use is;

1. At anchor
2. On a day night passage

In respect of 1, what equipment are you using and for what periods of time.

The same question for 2, and does...
