Ally bends too easy and fatigues. The forces of mast compression can be huge and cyclic.

Weight aside, because most of it would be more due to the "monocoque" thick heavy layup, I wonder how long before deterioration of the steel sets in? They use peroxide catalysts in the hardeners if...

Yep, went to buy some equipment and to see the Lagoon 42. Confirmed that the mast is held up by a steel beam across the boat! I couldn't believe that was true, but Lagoon sales guy confirmed it.
