Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016
Exactly, good for cruising. Not for racing, IMO. You see this is where you lose me. The designers/Bob of WO11 decided to have pretty much all systems powered. To enable this they NEEDED a... |

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016
We'll have to disagree on that point. Again, we'll have to disagree on that. They made the decision to have all the powered systems that required having the engine running. Which is the... |

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016
I think you've misunderstood RD, I don't believe Polux, or most people for that matter, realised that WO11 needs her engine running all the time. Polux doesn't understand the hydraulic systems on... |

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016
I think the mods done to WO11 lessen Commanche's advantages when the wind moves aft of the beam and gets stronger and still retain their uphill and lighter wind advantages. In fact I wouldn't be... |

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016
Yes, it does have everything to do with how the boat is moved. To power the winches the engine needs to be running, ergo, no engine = no sails hoisted = no sailing. Engine stops = game over.... |

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016
Look, they can't sail without the engine running. And I don't belive that they have the same power requirements as others as they're all configured differently. As 44c has already described regarding... |

Re: Sydney To Hobart 2015-2016
I understand the point he, and 44c, are making. Wild Oats can NOT be propelled AT ALL without the engine running. No battery technology could support their requirements for POWER TO SAIL THE BOAT. ... |
