Re: Be Wary (Maybe) of Stay Cool Pumps Impellers

I wonder if the larger hub diameter changes the way the vanes are mashed by the cam? All conjecture, of course, but such an early failure must have some cause, and i doubt if initial lube or lack...

Re: Be Wary (Maybe) of Stay Cool Pumps Impellers

My goodness, Pete, what an angry response to a request for some information to support your claim.

At any rate, I read through your interesting linked dissertation, and I now know a lot more about...

Re: Be Wary (Maybe) of Stay Cool Pumps Impellers

It's hard to tell from the photo, but the blades on the sta-cool look shorter and its hub larger in diameter than on the Yanmar model. I wonder if that wouldn't explain the failure... kinda mashing...

Re: Be Wary (Maybe) of Stay Cool Pumps Impellers

Pete, can you provide some documentation for this? I don't believe that wiping some glycerin on the rubber reduces stiffness at all... it serves to reduce friction during installation and in first...

Re: Be Wary of Stay Cool Pumps Impellers

Ah, I see! I misinterpreted what you meant by "reliable".

And FWIW, we get around 1000 hours before shedding fins usually... except in the example mentioned upthread with the suspected "old...

Why not just change the impeller every 550 hours and skip the filter? You say it is quite reliable up to that figure!

Re: Be Wary of Stay Cool Pumps Impellers

Don't know about that particular brand of impeller, but we had a normal Jabsco impeller fall apart in a similar fashion a couple of years ago. When we purchased it (from a chandler we had not used...
